-
- Hi,
-
- I have recently bought a Phase 5's FastLane Z3 SCSI-2 Zorro-3
- board for my Amiga 4000 computer. It's a used board, but it seem in
- perfect state. I need this board to replace my old Oktagon 2008 SCSI-2
- Zorro-2 board. But the FastLane doesn't work, and I can't figure what
- is going wrong. The z3scsi.device version is 5.820.
-
- First of all, here is the specification of my computer system:
-
- Amiga 4000/040 running at 50mhz:
- Ç 2 meg Chip and 24 meg Fast RAM;
- Ç Workbench V3.0 (Kickstart V39.106, Workbench V39.29);
- Ç Super Buster revision 11;
- Ç 3640 revision 3.1 (with U209 version -02 and U103 74FCT244).
-
- There is a Sonnet Technologies's Doubler-4000 68040/50mhz on
- the 3640: but with or without the Doubler-4000, the problems
- with the FastLane are the same. It doesn't seem to change anything.
-
- Devices:
- Ç Seagate 340meg IDE hard-drive connected to the IDE port of the
- Amiga;
- Ç Seagate Hawk 1.06gig SCSI-2 Fast hard-drive connected to the
- Oktagon board;
- Ç Iomega SCSI-2 ZipDrive connected to the Oktagon board.
-
- Boards:
- Ç Alfa Data's Oktagon 2008 SCSI-2 Zorro-2 (oktagon.device V6.6);
- Ç Utilities Unlimited's Emplant "SERIAL" Zorro-2;
- Ç Phase 5's CyberVision 64 with 4meg DRAM Zorro-3;
- Ç Phase 5's FastLane Z3 Zorro-3 (z3scsi.device V5.820) with 8meg of RAM.
-
- The software used to install the SCSI devices are: Advanced System
- & Software's SCSIConfig V1.6 and UnitControl V1.5, Commodore's HDToolBox
- V39.12, Alpha Data's HDInstTools V2.15.
-
- I have tried several configuration of jumpers setting, including the
- "Auto Enable Synchronous Transfer", "Slow Cable Mode" and "Slow Inquiry
- Mode". I don't have any SIMMs in the FastLane Z3 SIMM sockets for the
- moment.
-
- I want to replace my Oktagon 2008 board with the FastLane Z3. The
- FastLane Z3's users manual specify that the board work well on
- revision/11 buster chip and "For board version 3.1, with U209 at
- version -02 you will need a 74FCT244 clock driver chip.". So all
- seem to be ok here.
-
- First, I try to install my ZipDrive on the FastLane Z3 (SCSI ID #5
- Terminating). First of all, the old Oktagon's RDB on ZipDisk was too
- short for the FastLane... It seem to need more than 4kb. Second, I
- can't format the ZipDisk with FastLane Z3! It make my computer crash
- after formating the first cylinders... Why? So I format my ZipDisk
- with the extended RDB on my Oktagon, and then reconnect the ZipDrive
- to the FastLane Z3...
-
- It work, but it's very unstable: I can't format or I can't erase a
- lot of files on the ZipDisk without crashing my computer. I also often
- get a system requester with a message like these:
-
- >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

- Unexpected Phasechange
- SCSIReset and back to asynchon mode.

- And when I try to use the ZipDrive with the MacIntosh II emulator
- ShapeShifter V3.4, it does not reconize the MacOS and PC formatted
- ZipDisk! Why? Why can't I use my ZipDrive if it's plugged in
- FastLane Z3?
-
- And finally, I can't get my Seagate's Hawk hard-drive (SCSI ID #0) to
- boot on the FastLane. And when I try to log in my hard-drive whith
- SCSIConfig, it tell that "SECTORS*HEADS*CYLINDERS" overpass the disk's
- block capacity. If I force to mount the Hawk hard-drive, it seem to be
- unvalidated and it crash the computer when try to write something on
- it...
-
- What am I doing wrong? How can I get my FastLane Z3 working well?
- Why I can't format any disk with this FastLane Z3? How can I fix the
- disk's RDBs? Please help me.
-
- Please answer me (in french or in english) as soon as possible by
- EMail.
-
- Thank you very much! Regards,
